Mawarid Labs / Testing guide

Good evidence begins
before the sample.

Plan your testing enquiry, prepare the right information and understand the route from collection to reporting.

First, agree the plan

Contact.
Confirm. Collect.

Different analyses may need different materials, quantities, containers and transport conditions. Confirm the requirements for the requested test directly with the laboratory for the analysis you need.

  1. Describe the question

Explain the species, material or project and the decision you need the results to support.

  2. Confirm suitability

Ask which tests or services are appropriate and available, and whether the laboratory can meet your intended reporting requirements.

  3. Agree collection and delivery

Confirm who will collect, the required sample amount and container, any handling instructions, packaging, the delivery location and acceptance arrangements.

  4. Agree the reporting plan

Confirm pricing, expected reporting time, the authorised recipient and how to ask follow-up questions.

Start with the material

What are you
working with?

Animal samples +

Tell the team the species, intended analysis and whether the material is blood, serum, a swab or another sample type. Ask about the exact collection, labelling and delivery requirements. Clinical records should be shared only through a channel agreed with the laboratory.

Tissue or post-mortem investigation +

Call before moving an animal body or collecting or dispatching tissues. Confirm acceptance, timing, packaging and handling instructions with the laboratory and the responsible veterinarian.

Water, feed or milk +

Describe the source or sampling point and the purpose of testing. Confirm the parameters, number of samples, containers and transport conditions. Requirements for one analysis may not be suitable for another.

Plants, seeds or research material +

Describe the species or habitat if known, the project purpose and the type of support requested. Agree collection permissions, documentation and the laboratory's involvement before gathering or sending material.

Your enquiry checklist

A useful
first conversation.

  • The question or decision the project needs to address
  • The species, material or site type involved
  • The proposed service or test, if known
  • The expected sample number or project scale, if known
  • Your preferred timing and any external deadline
  • Any required reporting format, standard or regulatory purpose

Keep initial enquiries brief. Do not include passwords, identity documents or sensitive records in the website planner.

Prepare an enquiry brief

Plan how results will be used

Ask about the
whole pathway.

Confirm when the reporting period starts, how the findings will be communicated, and whether additional testing may be recommended. Discuss any requirement for certified, accredited or regulatory reporting before commissioning the work.

Results should be considered with the relevant veterinary or scientific context. This guide does not replace test-specific instructions or professional advice.
